I always like non-neccesary but fun details in my roleplay, because it makes roleplaying more than just talking and fighting, it turns roleplay into "living" a character instead of playing a character.
Smoking is one of those details. I don't smoke myself, but it has a certain character to it when being in character. People in medieval times and fantasy worlds were probably less conscious about the health of their lungs. Just sitting there with a pipe in my mouth however quickly grew boring and thus I expanded on the idea by making a tobaco pouch which I filled with all sorts of leaves, herbs and plants. The first version was lost during last Expiatio together with one of my pipes, this is the second version.
The pouch is made from sheep leather, and finished with a button I once found on the floor in the supermarket I work at.
The trianglelic symbol is designed to "light" the pipe in game by placing the pipe on it and putting your finger on the crosses. It contains symbolics for air and fire and is perfect for the task, especially for mages, turning it into a miniscule magic ritual.
It sure is, I find that LARP is all about the small details. Pipesmoking, playing dice, performing alchemy with a complete batallion of small jars and bottles. It all adds to the magic of roleplay
Nice pouch, and I like the added element of a story behind the symbols for LARP purposes.
One thing to note though, pipe smoking has no more relation to lung health than sitting near a camp fire. This is because pipe smoke is not taken into the lungs and does not contain all the chemical additives that cigarette tobacco has.
